HCHS Students Awarded GSP, CHA, GSA, and Gatton Honors

Congratulations to Jenna Moore for being named a 2020 Kentucky Governor Scholar and to Kathryn Stahr for being named an alternate!

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a 5 week, residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year of high school. GSP’s mission is to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. Selection for the program is highly competitive, with an application process similar to that of prestigious college and universities. In addition to an academic profile that includes difficulty of course load, GPA, and at least one standardized test score, the application requires an outline of all extracurricular activities, a history of volunteer service, and a list of job positions held. Students who are selected for the program will receive a full-paid tuition scholarship for four years if the students have the ACT score and GPA required by the college they choose to attend.

Congratulations to Our 2020 CHA Participants!

Juniors Jenna Moore, Karlie Smith, and Kathryn Stahr have been selected into the Commonwealth Honors Academy. CHA is an exciting, challenging, 3 week academic, personal and social growth, summer program for outstanding students completing their junior year of high school. It is held on the campus of Murray State University during the month of June. The mission of CHA is to challenge, encourage, enlighten, and nurture the next generation of civic, academic, and business leaders of the region.

Congratulations to our 2020 GSA Participant!

Junior Vanor Neto has been named a 2020 GSA participant. GSA is an arts education program of The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. GSA auditions & reviews the Commonwealth’s most promising high school sophomores and juniors in nine different arts disciplines: Architecture + Design, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Film + Photography, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Art and Vocal Music. GSA is a highly competitive three week summer program that provides talented young artists with a highly intense and challenging arts instruction.

Congratulations to Sophomore Emma Harris for being admitted into Gatton Academy!

Each year, The Gatton Academy admits approximately 95 Kentucky sophomores based on standardized test scores, their GPA, responses to essay questions, personal interviews, extracurricular activities and recommendations. The goal of The Gatton Academy is to enable Kentucky’s exceptional young scientists and mathematicians to learn in an environment that offers advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for leadership roles in Kentucky. Instead of spending their junior and senior years in traditional high schools, students enroll in The Gatton Academy and live in a uniquely dedicated Gatton Academy residence hall. Taking courses offered by WKU, their classmates are fellow Gatton Academy students and WKU undergraduate students. At the end of two years, Gatton Academy students will have earned between sixty and seventy-two college credit hours in addition to completing high school.
