Leadership Cabinet

tudents in fourth, fifth and sixth grades at Hickman County Elementary School took a big step towards becoming citizens Friday.

For the first time ever, those students cast ballots for the HCES Leadership Cabinet, a student council created this year to give students a larger voice in activities and events at the elementary school. Students in grades four through six voted for candidates in the general election after a week of campaigning, primary elections in social studies teacher Jeff Boaz’s class, and a debate among primary election winners.

The Leadership Cabinet is comprised of three fourth-grade students, four fifth graders, and five sixth-grade students, as devised by Mr. Boaz. The winners in the election included: fourth graders Carter Terry, Micah Templeton and Avery Nanney; fifth graders Bayleigh Basch, Micah Swift, John Eric Johnson, and Coleson Naranjo; and sixth-grade students Micah Naranjo, Emma Swift, Garrett Ward, Jacy Hicks and Rhett Dalton.

The Leadership Cabinet is scheduled to meet soon with Mr. Boaz and HCES Principal Richard Todd to offer student suggestions regarding school improvement.
